Ooooh, polemical but astute, Eye of Rah! I agree with the jacket texture criticism; maybe I was squinting or something, but at first glance, it looked to be made of terry cloth, like a housecoat or something similarly cheap and frumpy.

Overall it’s definitely better than average. I don’t know, maybe we have a dearth of peacocked hipsters West of Los Angeles, but this is a long way above the usual. Given the same distance from the correct pitch, sharp is better than flat, savvy? Best to hit spot on, but far better to try too hard than not hard enough.

So yeah: He’s got 4 things going on at once in the neck/chest zone, which is a bit much. And if you’re going to rock the beard, clean the edges or risk incongruency instead of contrast. The sunglasses are a matter of personal preference, and as strongly influenced by where you live as the needs of your facial structure. Travel farther than 100 miles and your herd-approved shades will stand out from the locals.

The whole could come off as faintly effeminate, in spite of the beard, unless in a big city, preferably East Coast, where peacock options are broader. The coat fabric is definitely best in a well-dressed city. Note also that it’s a peacoat, and the change in overall effect that gives.

My advice to him would be to clean the neck up, and either choose the shawl collar or the orange checkers, but not both.
